Choose the shipping model before you publish

Add a shipping-model field with controlled values such as buyer-paid prepaid label, seller-paid prepaid label, and ship on your own. That choice changes which amounts belong in revenue, shipping expense, and fee calculations.

After the order completes, replace any estimate with the amount shown on the transaction. Keep package weight and carrier service in notes when shipping adjustments are a recurring source of lost margin.

  • Keep buyer-paid shipping and seller shipping expense in separate fields.
  • Save the order ID so a fee or shipping adjustment can be traced later.

Apply the fee to the right amount

Mercari’s official U.S. fee update says the seller fee is 10% of the completed item price and buyer-paid shipping, with no additional seller payment-processing fee under that structure. That means a formula based only on item price can be wrong for a buyer-paid-shipping order.

Use the formula as a planning estimate, then reconcile the marketplace-fee column to the completed transaction. If Mercari changes its fee structure again, only the estimate formula should change; the historical rows should continue to show the amounts actually charged.

Preserve the evidence needed for a transaction review

Keep the carrier, tracking status, ship date, and order ID with the inventory row. Mercari’s seller-protection guidance ties eligibility to requirements such as using a valid tracking number and following the required shipping process.

A compact issue-status field—none, in transit, delivered, return requested, returned, or cancelled—makes unresolved orders visible without overwriting the original sale details.
